A birthday at an art studio in Almaty is simple in shape: for two or three hours the children make one thing and take it home. Not an entertainer with games, but a workshop that leaves everyone holding their own work. Below is what happens in order, what there is to choose from, and what to settle before booking.
How the party runs
The workshop runs 2-3 hours. The exact length depends on the age of the guests and on what is being made.
- Arrival and setup. The children take their places, pick up materials and put on clothes they do not mind staining. Paint does not wash out, and parents are worth warning in advance
- The demonstration. The teacher shows the finished piece and breaks it into steps. The children see what they are aiming at and understand that it is within reach
- Working through the steps. Each child leads their own piece and the teacher comes round to everyone. All of them make the same subject and all of them get something different, which is a normal part of the party
- Drying and photographs. While the works dry there is time for wishes, photographs and presents
- Taking it home. Everyone takes their piece home the same day. Anyone who prefers can leave a canvas at the studio to dry until the next day. Their own piece is the gift for the guests; there is no need to buy anything extra
The party often goes better if parents step out for a while during the work: without adults nearby the children are less distracted and do more themselves. If someone needs to stay, mention it when booking and we will work out the arrangements in advance.
Two formats: tote bag or canvas
One is chosen, and either fits into a single session.

The tote bag is booked more often: the result is useful, and a month later it is still in use rather than in a cupboard. Canvas is chosen when what should remain is a picture.
The subject is matched to age. A seven-year-old and a twelve-year-old end up with different things, and the task differs too, so the guests' ages are the first thing we ask about.
What is included and what to bring
Included:
- all materials belong to the studio: paint, brushes, palettes
- the base is in the price: canvas for painting, the tote bag for the bag format
- the work goes home with the guest the same day, and a canvas can be left at the studio overnight to dry if preferred
- a place at the table for everyone, with their own setup and their own pace
There is nothing to bring in the way of materials. Dressing simply is all we ask of the guests.
A cake and light food can be brought along, but say so in advance, when booking. A break for the table is built into the programme: it sets when the children step away from their work and how much time is left for drying.
How many guests there will be and how many teachers are needed is agreed when the party is discussed: it depends on the children's ages, the format and how best to seat everyone. Give a rough head count when you write about the date. Adults who sit down to paint with the children count as guests too.
What it costs
The price is per person: from 7 000 ₸ per guest, with materials already included. There is no need to bring paint, brushes or a base.
The exact price depends on the workshop format. Painting a tote bag, painting on canvas and other options differ in the base, the set of paints and how involved the subject is, so the sum is named once it is clear what the children will make. There is no separate charge for the room.

What to settle in advance
Seven questions worth answering before booking. With them the WhatsApp conversation takes five minutes instead of half an hour.
- Date and time. The studio works by appointment, and on weekdays the time is fitted around the groups: the schedule takes up most of the day. Monday is a day off
- How many guests. A rough number is enough. It decides how everyone is seated and how many teachers work the party, and we agree that together
- Age. If the guests are of mixed ages, say the range: the task is pitched at the youngest, or they fall behind
- Format. Tote bag or canvas
- Subject. You can bring a reference, a picture the child likes. You can also leave the choice to the teacher
- Which adults are staying. If a parent needs to be there, it is worth discussing in advance. An adult who sits down to paint counts as a participant
- The table. Whether there will be a cake and food. If so, the break is planned into the programme in advance, otherwise it eats into working time
An off-site party is not an off-the-shelf service: it is discussed separately, because the venue, the number of guests and the project all need to be understood first.
What is left afterwards
Every guest has a thing of their own, made by hand rather than handed out in a bag. The parents have photographs of the process, not only of the cake.
